Féroll-Jon Davids joined the CPO as principal clarinet, after performing as an ad hoc musician several times prior to that, and performing the Mozart Clarinet Concerto in an arrangement for quintet in the CPO’s Masterpieces in Miniature in 2020.
He holds a BMus and MMus in Clarinet Performance (cum laude) from Stellenbosch University under the tutelage of Jimmy Reinders and former CPO principal clarinettist Daniel Prozesky. During his studies, he attended two semester exchanges in the USA at the University of Georgia in Athens, Georgia in 2018 and Montana State University in Bozeman, Montana in 2020.
Féroll-Jon has performed as a soloist in youth concerto festivals across South Africa, including performances with the KwaZulu-Natal Philharmonic Orchestra (2015), Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra (2016) and the Stellenbosch University Symphony Orchestra (2015, 2017, 2019). In 2016, Féroll-Jon was a finalist in the ATKV Muziq Competition and won the coveted Mabel Quick International Scholarship Competition in 2017. In the same year, he was a participant in Disa, a chamber music programme hosted by members of Decoda, a group of chamber musicians affiliated to Carnegie Hall. In 2019, he attended an International Summer Academy (isa19) in Payerbach, Austria, hosted by the University of Performing Arts in Vienna. At isa19, the wind quintet, of which he was a member, won the prize for the best interpretation of a composition by the Czech composer Antonín Reicha.
Féroll-Jon is also passionate about music education was involved at Jamestown Sounds, a community music project in Stellenbosch, as a teacher (since 2018) and as a project manager (2021). Féroll-Jon is also a part-time clarinet lecturer at Stellenbosch University.
