Kyle Rother

Kyle Rother, who joined the CPO as Orchestra Librarian in January 2025, is a graduate of the South African College of Music at the University of Cape Town, where he studied piano with Albie van Schalkwyk, theory and composition with Hendrik Hofmeyr, and orchestration and arrangement with Peter Klatzow. After furthering his studies at UCT with postgraduate qualifications in library and information science, and intellectual property law, Kyle went on to work for several years in various capacities at UCT. He then spent several years as a digital librarian and copyright specialist for the International Music Score Library Project (ISMLP), the world’s largest online public domain sheet music library.

In his personal capacity, Kyle has created notable editions of several significant works, including an open source, open-score edition of the 48 fugues from Bach’s Well-tempered Clavier; a set of orchestral parts for Ravel’s Tzigane which was the only freely accessible set of parts for this work for over a decade; an arrangement of the two piano parts of Saint-Saëns’ Carnival of the Animals for both players at one keyboard.

As an avid chorister, Kyle has performed with various amateur and professional choruses around Cape Town and internationally.
