WINTER SYMPHONIES AT THE CITY HALL
June sees the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra back in the City Hall with three concerts in its Winter Symphonies season. Thomas Sanderling, eminent maestro and son of Kurt, will conduct two, on June 12 and 19. The first is an all-Brahms Concert with Andrey Baranov performing the Violin Concerto before the 4th Symphony; the second with local heroes Megan-Geoffrey Prins and Tinus Botha presenting the Concerto for Two Pianos, K 365. Also on the programme are the overture of Mozart’s Der Enthfhrung aus dem Serail and Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7. The final concert is a collaboration with Opera UCT, supported by the City of Cape Town, with soloists and the CPO Afri-Arts Choir in a concert version of Verdi’s masterpiece Il Trovatore.
